   In case you're seing Quick Commander in the very first timen:
Quick (a really quick) commander  works with your disks  as fast
as  it  only  possible (just a hardware limitation), and uses  a
direct WD-FDC1793 chip access technique. So  working  with  hard
drives isn't possible.
   If you're seing Quick Commander at the first time indeed then
you can easily skip list of differences  between  versions,  and
start reading from detailed description, which is  little  lower
in this text.

   If you have got a 16k or 32k  Shadow RAM on your computer you
can  install  Quick  Commander  v2.6  in  there and invoke it by
pressing  the <Magic> button while almost any pogram is working.
To install Quick Commander into Shadow RAM you have to press and
hold an <I> button (Install) while commander is loading. To show
success of installation into Shadow RAM, Quick Commander changes
border  colour  to  green for a short time. Then you can release
the  <I>  button.  After  this  you're  able  to  enter to Quick
Commander as easy as the <Magic> button press.

   Right after commander loaded you'll see initial  menu  on the

   On the left hand side  you  can  names of BASIC-files, one of
them is marked by  cursor bar. Move cursor bar with <Q>,<A>,<O>,
<P>;<6>,<7>,<8>,<9>;  cursor keys. Press <0> or <ENTER> to start
file  which  name  is  under  cursor  bar. Also you may start by
pressing the buttons which is swoth on the left hand side to the
file  name  along with <Caps shift> (some files might be started
w/o  <Caps shift>). For example, to start a "ZXUNZIP!" file from
above  illustration  you  have  to press <Caps shift>+<D>. Quick
Commander  will load and start files by its own routines, so you
can  start files with absolutely equal names. On the bottom part
of  the  screen  you'll see "hotkeys" list of commander. E.g. to
start  program  in  48k-only  mode  you have to press <R> button
(marked  as  "Run_48"  in  the  list).  Here  is  description of
"hotkeys" of initial menu:

   <1>,<2>,<3>,<4> - select A,B,C,D drive respectively, selected
drive  will  be  marked by a "pressed" button of green colour in
the top right corner of the screen.
   <Edit> <CS+1> - cycle drive A,B,C,D. Hold this button pressed
until desired drive is selected.
   <Caps Lock> <CS+2> - change destination drive (a target drive
for file copying). Not used in this mode.

   <5> (5-reread) - reread disk directory
   <N> (Name) - change disk title. Enter 11 symbols of the  disk
title.  In  this  mode  you can used following keys: "left", and
"right"  -  to  move  cursor  mark, <Delete> - delete character,
<Edit>  -  change  cyrillyc/latin  character  set. <Caps lock> -
change  caracters  size  (big/small). Cirillyc keymap based on a
"??????",  characters  "?","?","?","?","?"  are  mapped  to  the
<Symbol shift> with "a","s","f","g","x" keys. <Extend> and rigth
mouse  button  -  chancel  disk remanimg, <Enter> and left mouse
button - save new disk title down to disk.
   <C> (Care) - enter to disk service mode. Description of  this
mode given lower in this text.
   <R> (Run_48) - start current file  in "48k-only" mode. Before
starting the 5th bit of #7FFD port will be set.
   <T> (Tr-Dos) - quick exit to Tr-Dos.
   <Space> - enter to file service mode.

   If you move mouse, then another cursor appears on the screen.
This  cursor might be used to start files, just click left mouse
button over file name. Rigth mouse button used to set cursor bar
over  file name, wat is needed to start file in "48k-only" mode.
Clicking left mouse button over drive button will change current
drive,  clicking  over  "hotkeys" list in the bottom part of the
screen  will execute pointed command. If you have a middle mouse
button  then you can used it to reread disk directory. If you do
not  have middle mouse button then you can reread disk directory
by "5-reread" or by pressing drive button on the top-left corner
of the screen.

   The "Slow save" or "Fast save" note shows disk access mode of
the  commander.  The  "Slow save" (as on illustration above) you
have  guerantee  of correct work with any drive. But if you want
to  increase  disk  access speed in two times (!), then used any
disk  editor, move to beginning of the Quick Commander 2.6 BASIC
file  and find "save fast-N" string there. Change the "N" letter
to "Y", save changes on disk, and after starting Quick Commander
you'll see "Fast save" in the menu. In "Fast save" is possbility
of  incorrect  data  saving  to the disk on some disk drives! To
check  how good your drive works take a blank disk and copy some
files there, then use "Check" option of "Disk service" to check.
If  there  an error on the disk appeared, then you better do not
use  "Fast save" mode. Btw, speed migth be increased after using
of "Restore disk" (in <Care> menu).
   Little lower some numbers  shown  -  this  information  about
current file. Here is what on the illustration:

30000 - file starting address
..850 - file length in bytes

..4 - file size in sectors
..9 - initial track of file 
..6 - sector of file
    
   Move cursor by <Q>,<A>,<O>,<P>; <6>,<7>,<8>,<9>; cursor keys.
<0>, <Enter> or rigth mouse button will mark current filename.
   <1>,<2>,<3>,<4> - Select A,B,C,D drive respectively, selected
drive  will  be  marked by a "pressed" button of green colour in
the top right corner of the screen.
   <Edit> <CS+1> - cycle drive A,B,C,D. Hold this button pressed
until desired drive is selected.
   <Caps Lock> <CS+2> - change destination drive (a target drive

   <5> - reread disk directory

   <C>  (Copy)  -  copy marked files. Copying will be processed
in order of file marking.

NOTE:  If  you do not have enougth free space on target disk and
you  have "No space" on the screen, you may leave this mode only
if  you  hold right mouse button till moment when "Break. Retry,
Ignore,  Abort" meny appears. In the same way you can cancel any
operation  with help of rigth mouse button. On keyboard you have
to  press  "space"  button  for  same  action,  or  <A>  key for
immediate interrupt.

   <M>  (Move)  - pack disk space. Will work only on  disk where
some deleted files presents.

   Operations "Copy" and "Move" will not work in 48k mode. Whole
memory  used  in  process  of these operations. Amount of memory
displayed in the right upper part of the screen (on illustration
it  is  "Memr:.256K").  Commander  may  use  extended  memory of
Scorpion256/Kay256  on  #1FFD port, Profi256-1024 on #DFFD port,
and  Pentagon256/512 on #7FFD port. On Scorpion-256 8th RAM page
isn't used (because of conflict with Shadow  monitor variables).
Operation progress can be seen as 'squares' in right bottom part
of the screen.

   <D> (Delete) - delete marked files
   <R> (Rename) - rename file under cursor bar. Works exactly as
"Change disk title" in initial menu. If you will enter something
on  place  of  "hash" of deleted filename then this fill will be
restored.
   <G> (merGe) - "join"  marked  files  into  one  file. Between
marked files might not be deleted of not marked files. If marked
more than 255 sectors then sequence of files will be created.
   <V> (View) - if cursor is set on @-file or on screen$ file
(size=6912 bytes), then you'll enter to "view" mode. The <Space>
button or left mouse button will change picture colours, <Enter>
will move yop to next file, others buttons - exit. In other case
you'll enter to "text view" mode. Description of this mode is in
the lower part of the text.
   <Z> (muZ) - search in current file a music in Pro-Tracker v3.x
format. Song might be compiled or not, with player of without it.
   <+> (m+) - select files (invert selection).
   <-> (m-) - deselect all files.
   <Space> - exit to initial menu

   Double click by left mouse button over file  name  will cause
searching  of  screen$  and music in the file. In nothing found,
you will enter to the "text view" mode.

   You have to press <C> button in initial menu to get unto this
mode (Care).

   <K> (Keep cat) - save disk directory on the track 161 (not
used by system).
   <S> (Show) - compare original and archive directories.
   <E> (rEstore cat) - restore disk directory from  archive copy
on track 161
   <C> (Check disk) - fast disk surface. Will try to restore
defective track. Check/restore process indicated in the left
side of the screen with 'squares'.
   <R> (Restore disk) - restore defective tracks. Will  also  be
good idea to used on each disk to optimise sector sequence, what
gives  you  some  speed  up  of disk access when Quick Commander
works with such disk.

   Both "Check disk" and  "Restore  disk"  may  be  started from
position  of  marked  file. To do this, you have to mark file in
initian menu and enter to "Care" mode.

   <F> (Format disk) - format disk. First you have to  enter new
disk  title  (up  to 11 characters). If you do not want to enter
disk  name  (just  press <Extend mode>, right mouse button, etc)
you  will  not be allowed to format disk and will be returned to
previous mode. In other case formatting process will be started.
Process will be indicated by a 'sueqres' in the left part of the
screen. Remember: disk formatted from the  LAST  track  and  you
always  can  stop  it  if you occasionally started formating the
wrong  disk.  In best case you'll not damage disk data, in worst
case =:-O... Disk will be formatted for 2544 sectors (80 tracks,
two sides).

   From version 2.2 in Quick Commander appeared built-in viewer
of  text files 64 characters wide (idea by KSA). You can used it
for  reading  files  up  to  255  sectors  long. If file takes 0
sectors on the disk, then 255 sectors will be loaded.
   Viewer control:

Line Up:                     <9>, <Q>, cursor up
Line Down:                   <8>, <A>, cursor down
Page Up:                     <True video>, cursor left
Page Down:                   <Inverse video>, cursor right

Text right (up to 2040 characters):   <7>, <P>
Text left (uo to 2040 characters):    <6>, <O>
To text beginning:                    <B>
To text end:                          <E>
Next file:                            <Enter>
Enable/disable AY sound:              <S>
Enable/disable line wrap:             <W>
Convert text:                         <C>
Quit to commander:                    <Edit>, <Extent mode>

   Mouse control equal to Quick Commander. In the bottom part of
the text is another "help line".
   Screen with text virtually divided on four parts:

   Clicking on the part one will move text on  one page up. 2-nd
part  will  move text on one page down. 3-rd part will move text
on one line up. 4-th part moves text on one line down.
   A text converter (<C> hotkey) converts text  into  MS Windows
charset,  next  will  be KOI8-R charset and then standard MS DOS
charset.
   Line wrap mode (<W> hotkey) enable/disable line  wrapping. It
is  allows  read  long  lines on one screen. This is much better
than using "Left" and "Right" buttons.
